Brussels/Dubai, 28 November 2016:

The first edition of the AMWAJ forum will start on 28 November at the Rotana Amman hotel in the new Abdali of Amman, Jordan, in the presence of Ahmad Al-Hindawi, UN Secretary-General for Youth who will open the forum by talking about the forces driving sustainable development.

AMWAJ (“waves” in Arabic) is about moving towards a sustainable future for the Middle East and North Africa (MENA). AMWAJ is unique in bringing together the private and public sectors, thought leaders in environmental sustainability, social entrepreneurs and media from around the MENA region.

“PepsiCo is honored to be hosting the first-ever AMWAJ Forum in Jordan. We designed AMWAJ to create a shared understanding of sustainable development. In a region severely affected by issues like water shortages, youth unemployment, education and skills gaps, all stakeholders must be part of the solution. The forum aims to generate real, innovative solutions that help build a more sustainable future in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs).”

  • Ahmed El Sheikh, Senior Vice President and General Manager, Egypt and Jordan Commercial Unit, PepsiCo

AMWAJ includes a presentation of the Revolve Water Around the Mediterranean annual report that provides insights into the looming implications of water scarcity around the Euro-Mediterranean and Middle East regions with featured from young professionals from Spain, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Albania and more.

“We are embarking on a journey that connects continents, companies, entrepreneurs, journalists and individuals to encourage the emergence of a more sustainable future for the MENA and Euro-Mediterranean regions – that’s why AMWAJ is important.”

  • Stuart Reigeluth, Founder, Revolve Media

Continuing with the theme of communicating the value of water, Revolve Water will also lead a media workshop to journalists from around the region and is co-organizing field visits to the PepsiCo’s Positive Water Impact Projects in Jordan and the As-Samra Wastewater Treatment Plant outside of Amman.
